High Falls:

Mittie G. Seawell, 97, of High Falls, NC left us to be with her Savior Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

Mittie was born April 29, 1914 in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late William Jake Greene and Mary Florence "Mollie" Greene Haywood.

A resident of High Falls, all of her adult life, she was devout Christian, world traveler, lover of dance and sports enthusiast. She was involved in community activities, taught macramé classes at the local college and loved cooking for many years. As a member of High Falls United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and mentored the youth. She won Senior Olympic Championships at the National Level in horse shoes, shuffle board and track. She once held the National Record for the 100 meter dash and the North Carolina State record for the standing broad jump.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Elmer Seawell, Sr., sister, Texie Price and brothers: Dallas, Hoyt and Jake Greene. Mittie is survived by her daughter, Oleen and husband W. F. Ritter, Jr. of Robbins; son, Ollie Elmer Seawell, Jr. and wife Virgina, of Carthage, daughter, Cathrine and husband Ken Barber of Cary, daughter, Doris and husband Euliss Cockman, Jr. of Carthage; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Kennedy Funeral Home, 241 N. Middleton Street, Robbins, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 4, 2012 at High Fall United Methodist Church, 324 Frieson Road, Robbins, NC, where she was a member, with Reverend Jonathan Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care of FirstHealth and the many friends who provided care and support during the time of her illness.
